After more than three years of designing spaces across Halifax, Cape Breton, and beyond, I’m finally doing something I’ve been meaning to do for a while — starting a blog.

If we haven’t met yet, I’m Mark Tambal, the founder and designer behind The Perfect Spot. I started this studio because I believe every home tells a story, and the best designs come from actually listening to the people who live in them. Before interior design, I spent years in event management — coordinating details, solving problems on the fly, and making sure every experience felt intentional. Turns out, those skills translate beautifully into creating spaces that work just as well as they look.
Why a Blog, and Why Now?
Honestly? Because I’ve learned so much over the past three years that I wish I could share with more people — not just my clients. Things like how to choose paint colours that actually work in Nova Scotia’s natural light, what to prioritize when your renovation budget is tight, or why the “before” photo is the most important part of any project.
This blog is where all of that will live. Think of it as a window into the design process — the real one, not the highlight reel.
What You Can Expect
I’ll be posting once a month, and here’s the kind of content you’ll find here:
- Project stories — real before-and-afters from Halifax and Cape Breton renovations, with the details behind the decisions
- Design tips — practical advice you can use right now, whether you’re planning a full renovation or just refreshing a room
- Local inspiration — the best of Nova Scotia design, from colour palettes that suit our climate to local shops worth visiting
- Behind the scenes — mood boards, material sourcing, and what the collaborative design process actually looks like
